He is a former Dean of the school and a Chartered Engineer, as well as a Senior Fellow of the Academy of Higher Education. His research focuses on ocular biomaterial characterization, numerical simulation of ocular biomechanical properties, and the development of advanced medical equipment for eye health management. Professor Elsheikh has received a special grant from the National Health Research and Biomedical Research Center (NIHR-BRC) at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to ocular biomechanics. He is a prominent figure in international scientific collaboration, with research partnerships across Europe, America, and Asia, and has secured nearly ￡11 million in project funding. With 8 books, 220+ journal papers, and 150+ conference papers, his work has been cited over 8600 times.
